Summary
Direct shipment via common carrier prohibited. State statute has been interpreted to allow a New Jersey resident to obtain special permit ($25) from Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control, Richard J. Hughes, Justice Complex, CN 087, Trenton, NJ 08625, only for the personal transportation of alcohol in excess of 12 quarts of beer, one gallon of wine, or two quarts of other alcohol. The permit does NOT allow direct shipment by the out-of-state seller to a New Jersey consumer. Individual may bring in one gallon of wine and two quarts of brandy per day; greater quantities allowed if $5 permit obtained from Division and taxes paid. Importation only from states which allow transportation of alcoholic beverages obtained in New Jersey into their state. (¶¶7030, 4294-4295)(N.J.R.S.§33:1-2).
